Exchange 2010 Course Reactions - Day 3 of 5

Day three of learning about Exchange 2010, from a Notes & older Exchange viewpoint.

Routing
The mail routing is fairly simple, which is good. An improvement over some (very old) previous versions...

Message tracking logs
Wait... Useful logs from Microsoft?
I was stunned.
Useful logs that are in a usable text format, rather than some odd binary format?
PRAISE THE DARK GODS! FOR THEY ARE SURELY REWARDING US!

Exchange 2010 Course Reactions - Day 2 of 5

And my thoughts from day two of the course...

Exchange Control Panel
It's a sort of web admin light.
It's more oriented towards user and group admin, and could be handy. It also exposes itself via the user's settings in Outlook Web Access, so can be used to delegate control of groups to users.

On the one hand, I was doing this in Domino back in 2004 (with Domino 6.5), and I wasn't exactly pushing the boundaries... On the other hand, I can see why this would be very handy, and late is better than never.

Exchange 2010 Course Reactions - Day 1 of 5

I last used Exchange Server in a production environment on the 2003 SMB server, but really most of my experience is with Exchange 4.0, 5.5. and 2000 in Enterprises.

Why so old? Because back then, it was pretty awful compared to Notes. So I picked Notes, which gave me over a decade of work. Not a bad choice, I think...

Anyway, here's the first reactions to the course.

Installation
So many prerequisites!

Bus Station - 20 years of Big Issue

It's been 20 years of the Big Issue.

So when I was trying to pick a short story to publish this week, it had to be Bus Station.

It's a story that comes from a writing prompt:
Taken from a Writer's Cafe writing prompt...
Character: Mack Till
Setting: Bus station

I chose not to use the name in the story, and up until writing this "Behind The Keyboard" I had forgotten that the character had a name. Which is somewhat relevant...

Bus Station

I sit at the bus station, hovering at the border of unconsciousness. I'm so hungry, so tired. I can't afford to pass out though - I'll miss my chance.

Hopefully these cramps will pass.

I grip the ticket a little tighter, trying to pull myself together by focusing on it, until there's nothing else in the world but my ticket at the end of a dark tunnel.

My ticket out of here.

Pain from the cramps again.

I look up at the clock. Two hours until the bus leaves.

Bristol. That's where I'm going.

Photographs

I like taking photographs.

The ones I publish here are usually linked from Flickr, but get extra discussion and/or background.

Of course, you realise this means Food, right?

Business Park Landscape

Business Park Landscape

It's been a year since I put up any photos online. So I wanted to put up one taken at around the time I stopped.

I took this one at Bridgend, in Wales. I'd just checked into the hotel for a wedding, and had an hour or so to kill - so I stepped out with my camera.

Happy 20th Birthday Linux

Linux is 20 today, give or take.

Actually, it's the 20th anniversary of the announcement of Linux. It was, by then, about three to four months old - but existed only on Linus Torvald's hard disk.

What if that hard disk had died?

Personally, if Linux didn't exist, I'd still be struggling with the mess that is Windows. Or I'd have switched to the Mac already.

Thoughts

Is this site a blog? Am I a blogger? Some say yes, some say no.

Before social networking, blogs were places for all thoughts; now they’re just where we place longer trains of thought. The line between short and long is fuzzy, functioning on an “I know it when I see it” basis.

Here are my thoughts.
