SMWS 26.137 - Chasing chameleonsThe nose has barley sugar water, rosewater, honeysuckle and hints of crystallised ginger. The mouthfeel is thin with no cling. The body has balsa wood, barley sugar water, old oak (unpolished), lime, green apples, and then ginger. The finish has lime, barley sugar water and ginger. The ginger builds with repeated sips, getting quite warm.

Water brings out thin, rapidly expanding whorling that settles into brief mottling. The nose gains mango and green apple. The body gains tannic notes - fresh oak - alongside more green apple and some mango. The finish gains green apple and loses a little of the ginger.

The finish is consistently a little too warm for me, which is a pity as this is a superbly constructed dram that has a lovely set of flavours. It’ll be popular, and deservedly so.

One for autumn afternoons.

Technical score: 4.5/5

Personal preference: Just the one dram, thanks.
